Miss Saras - Power presentation skills

We were required to write an example of script for presentation pupose. So, here it is.

Assalamualaikum and good afternoon to all of you. I am Raifana from the Sweet E.coli group will presenting about "Air Pollution". First, I would like to share with all of you the definition of air pollution. According to World Health Organization air pollution is defined as a situation in which the outdoor ambient atmosphere contains materials in concentration which are harmful to man and his surrounding environments.

The main causes of air pollution are the industrial activities, smoke emission from motor vehicles, activity of power generator, our everyday routine such as cooking and also open burning. All these activities will lead to the emitation of dangerous gases that contribute to air pollution such as radon gas which is radioactive, CFCs, carbon monoxide and more.

When we think of air pollution generally we will imagine the air outside. However, a lot of the air pollution nowadays also takes place indoors. Indoor pollution is mainly caused by older buildings that were constructed with materials containing asbestos, lead and formaldehyde. These three contaminants can be deadly to our health. Fortunately, nowadays many of the new building that being built, recycle their indoor air through the ventilation systems.

As what we all think, air pollutants enters our bodies when we breathe them in, and that is indeed true. Most air pollutants gain access to our body as we inhale them. However, air pollution can also be ingested by eating contaminated fruits and vegetables as well as absorbed through the skin.

Once the air pollutants is in our body, it can move on to affect other areas that will eventually causes diseases such as cancer, kidney failure, liver damage, skin rashes, developmental problems in children, nervous system damage, cough and throat irritation, birth defect or miscarriages, and also asthma and chronic bronchitis.

So, what can we do to help? What can we do to reduce the increasing number of pollutants in the air? First, we could do some cut back on products, solvent cleaning products, and refrigeration or air conditioning devices that emit CFCs. Apart from that we can also educate ourselves to use natural cleaning products derived from water, vinegar and lemon juice.

While we do our shopping for household items, do take our own bags with us so that we can reduce the usage of plastic bags. Furthermore, for transportation we could also apply the car pool concept or just used the public transport to go to work. Last but not least, do avoid products that are both harmful to our healths as well as the environment. Thank you for listening.

The Two Weeks Report.

Tuesday, March 16, 2010 1:14 PM By Raifana Shamsuddin , In

I am supposed to write a report in here about my experiences of the whole two weeks in this BeST Programme that being sponsored by Biotech Corp. My first day in the program, I had already wrote it in previous entry but seems like it is not completed yet so as I had pretty much time right now, I will include the first day in this report. Okay lets not name it as report, you may call it as my story.

So we start with the 1st March of 2010 which is my first day in Universiti Tun Abdul Razak KL campus.

Monday, 1st March 2010. UniRazak, Capsquare.

Walking my way to the Capsquare from Dang Wangi LRT station at 7.30 in the morning is quite early as the office is still not open yet. Then, I met with two lovely ladies sitting by the fountain and coincidentally they also in the BeST programme as I am. We get to know each other, and so that is how I first knew Yati and Hurun.

So, we were walking together to the lecture hall guided by this one gentleman with other participants of the BeST program. We met with the organizer of the program and they gave us a briefing about the BeST program. Suddenly, we were asked by Miss Farah from Biotech Corp to join the two days "Team Building Camp" at Nur Lembah Pangsun near Sungai Congkak. It such of all a sudden as I was not prepared to go to a camping on the next day of the registration.

The next day...

Tuesday, 2nd March 2010. Nur Lembah Pangsun, Sg. Congkak.

The next morning I came early, worried that I will missed the bus. Miss Farah and another person from the Biotech Corp, Miss Hana planning that the bus will be moving to the camp site at 8 a.m sharp but then because we were waiting for some late comers we only moving on at about 20 minutes to 9 a.m.

On the first day we were needed to be involved in outdoor games and activity, but before the games begin we undergo the ice-breaking session where all of us being distributed randomly into 4 groups and I happened to be as the "RED FIRE" group member. The games is pretty much like a maze games and all the group members were required to contribute their help to their group.

There were many things that I learned through out the two days of team building modules and one of the most valuable thing that i got is the importance of team works. Besides that, I also realize that thrustworthy among the group members do affect the outcome of the group work.

UniRAZAK "city campus"

Sunday, March 14, 2010 11:59 AM By Raifana Shamsuddin , In

Venue:

1st March 2010,

UniRAZAK city campus, Capital Square

Biotechnology Entrepreneurship Special Programme (BeST)

The first word came out from my mouth as I get to UniRAZAK was "WOW". The architecture, the lift, the floor, everything is perfect in here. It looks like the place for the rich but still, the people in here is friendly I guess.

My amazement was not just ended there, walking my way into the Lecture Hall B at the second floor I was fascinated by the facilities in the lecture hall. Then, sitting on the comfort chair in the hall, and managed to make few friends I thought that the next 3 months in here will not be so bad after all.

More surprise came out, as I got to know some nice lecturers in this campus. They all are being so friendly and nice, very in contra to what I was imagining them to be. Serious and fierce was totally not them. Especially Miss Hanani and Dr. Khairudin who being so helpful to the BeSt participants.

Further stories will come out next, maybe I will continue telling this in the next entry. So, see you again dear readers. Bye.
